About Me
Counselling Psychologist
My name is Ruta, and I’m an HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist.
I completed my BSc in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, followed by an MSc in Mental Health Studies at King's College London (both with First Class Distinction). I was awarded my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton in February 2025. In March 2026, I was appointed Honorary Professor at Sri Sri University, India.
I have over six years of clinical experience working with adults across a range of settings, including the NHS, university counselling services, private practice, and charitable organisations.
I work with a wide range of difficulties, including challenges in relationships, self-worth, anxiety, and the impact of complex or developmental trauma. My approach is integrative and tailored to each person’s needs, goals, and pace.
Beyond my clinical training, I'm a certified Art of Living instructor and may incorporate mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork into therapeutic work where appropriate. My doctoral research explored the integration of mindfulness within psychotherapy, examining how Western psychological approaches and Eastern contemplative traditions complement each other.
Teaching and Training Experiences
Alongside my clinical work, I’ve had the opportunity to teach psychotherapy and mindfulness internationally, including at SSU University in India. Spending time teaching and learning in different cultural and clinical settings has broadened how I understand human experiences, and continues to influence the integrative way I approach therapeutic work.
My Approach
I have training in a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, and Person-Centred Therapy.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. I work integratively, tailoring our approach to your unique needs, experiences, and preferences. My style is collaborative and flexible, focusing not just on symptom reduction but on deeper, lasting change.
Depending on what you need, we might:
Create space for you to share and process your thoughts and feelings openly
Explore how past experiences and relationships shape your current life and sense of self
Develop practical skills for building resilience and navigating challenges with confidence and self-compassion
Work towards your goals, whether that's self-understanding, managing stress, coping with transitions, or addressing specific difficulties.
My approach is warm and honest. I provide a calm, confidential space where you can explore difficult feelings and experiences without judgment.
